Gold Leaf and Mezzotint by Katsunori Hamanishi

Today at Azuma Gallery ( www.azumagallery.com ) was happening a master class/demonstration by Mr. Katsunori Hamanishi, one of the most renown contemporary Japanese print makers. Mr. Hamanishi was showing his technique of mezzotint print with application of a gold leaf.
The whole process was performed from scratch (except for engraving of the metal matrix) with in-detail explanation by the artist.

Here are couple examples of Mr. Hamanishi's artworks. To see more (and purchase some) please visit the Azuma Gallery website ( www.azumagallery.com/#!katsunori-hamanishi-show/chmt ) or go to the gallery to see the show (August 7th-30th).

I would love to comment more about this show, but I have very limited knowledge about printmaking. Still, it was very interesting and educative to see how this

Becomes this
(Yeah, I know that's not the same matrix)
